Image too small: the 500 x 500 minimum

The minimum is not a suggestion: below it the product is rejected. And the minimum is not the target either, because Google crops and resizes your photo for a lot of different formats, so a photo that only just makes it looks bad everywhere.

What the policy actually says

«Meet these size requirements: At least 500 x 500 pixels»

Official policy  ·  quoted word for word, checked against the source on 2026-09-20.

This one blocks the product, or the whole account.

How to fix it in Shopify

  1. In Shopify, open the product image and check its dimensions in the file details.
  2. Replace anything under 500 x 500. Aim for around 1500 x 1500.
  3. Never enlarge a small photo to reach the minimum: it passes the check and looks worse than not being there.
  4. Go back to the original file rather than the one already uploaded, which may have been resized.

Check your whole store for this

Doing this by hand for one product is easy. Doing it for every product, and for the store-level rules that suspend accounts, is not. Type your store address and see where you stand, with the policy quoted next to each finding.
